POLITICS, NOTABLE NAMES, AND OTHER NEWS

This fall has proven to be among the most interesting and exciting in the history of Baker Sound Studios.

It all began back in August, when long-time Baker owner Gary Moskowitz sold the studio to Chief Engineer Rick DiDonato.  But before the ink was dry on the agreement, Rick found himself in the midst of the busiest political season in Baker history.  “It was unlike anything we’d ever experienced,” says DiDonato, who has been through some twenty political seasons during his time at Baker.  “We recorded hundreds of spots—the scripts just kept coming.  Scott Sanders [one of the most sought after political voices in the country] was basically camped out here.  There was one day during the campaign when he recorded the most spots he had ever voiced in a single day!”  Baker handled voice recording, mix to picture, radio production, and original music scoring for candidates all across the country.

Every election cycle is a busy time at Baker Sound, but that doesn’t mean there’s any slow down in the rest of our production activities.  This fall has been no exception, with an interesting assortment of notable names recording in our studios.

Are you ready for some football?  Legendary quarterback Joe Theismann was in to record for GlaxoSmithKline.  Theismann is part of GSK’s “EP in America” campaign, designed to raise awareness among men about enlarging prostate.  Speaking of football legends, Vince Papale, recent subject of the film “Invincible”, stopped by to record three spots for Jack Kellmer Jewelers, produced by Catboys Communications.  Even more football: Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook was here to voice radio spots for Lincoln Navigator, with agency Y&R in from Detroit to produce.  We even had quarterback Donavan McNabb’s mom, Wilma McNabb in to record some lines for Campbell’s Chunky Soup with Howard Schwartz Recording in New York.  Finally, MONSTER TRACKS composer Chuck Butler created the sound design for new Thomas Jefferson University Hospital TV & radio spots for Caspari McCormick, featuring Eagles middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter.  Gary Moskowitz was back with us to edit the radio portion of this campaign, and Rick DiDonato handled the mix with Pat Cannon producing.

If football isn’t your thing, we played host to a number of entertainment celebrities this fall as well.  Oscar nominee Terrence Howard stopped by to record TV spots for Toyota, produced by Chicago’s Burrell CommunicationsBianca Ryan, winner of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent”, laid down a track for her upcoming Columbia Records debut.  Raven Symone (from The Cosby Show and That’s So Raven) was in for The Disney Channel to record lines for her character “Monique” on the animated series “Kim Possible”.  And Seth Green  (remember him as “Scott Evil” in Austin Powers?) was working on Robot Chicken, the show he co-created for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.

There’s still more: local actor and voice artist Charlie Roney was in with Lou Reda Productions to narrate a two-hour documentary on the Mexican Revolution for The History Channel.  And in non-broadcast news, Baker has been busy producing a variety of medical study aids, including books, glossaries, pronunciation guides, and Q&A segments in CD-ROM and downloadable formats for clients including publishers Elsevier and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

“I’m grateful for all the support our clients have shown since the change in ownership,” remarks new owner DiDonato.  “Coming through such a busy fall gives me a lot of confidence that our team can handle an increase in workload while maintaining our high standards for quality."
